The Core Values of IBS-STL Global

Preamble

The people of IBS-STL Global are God's people assigned the specific mandate of impacting the lives of others for Christ through the provision of God's Word.

As God's people, we recognize that:

  • We once lived in alienation from God because of our sins and rebellion.
  • We have been reborn as a result of God's grace to us and so now we live in a new relationship with Jesus Christ and trust in his saving power.
  • We enter the future with changed lives, eager to share the Gospel with others until Christ returns.

Because we are God's people, we are bound by clear biblical standards which guide our lives and ministry. These are found throughout the Scriptures in passages such as the following:

  • He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8
  • Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God–this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will. For by the grace given me I say to everyone of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you. Romans 12:1-3
  • Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake. 2 Corinthians 4:2,5
  • So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad. 2 Corinthians 5:9-10
  • You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love. Galatians 5:13
  • May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. Neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything; what counts is a new creation. Galatians 6:14-15
  • ...to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:23-24
  • Be very careful, then, how you live–not as unwise but as wise, ... Ephesians 5:15
  • And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians . 3:17
  • Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15

Core Values

In fulfillment of our mission statement, we the staff of International Bible Society subscribe to the following Core Values:

Authority - We believe God’s Word to be our infallible authority. In order to accomplish our mission, we must adhere to the principles and practices revealed in God’s inspired Word. Psalm 119:14-16

Integrity – In all our dealings, we will follow the highest ethical standards to ensure our stewardship of the resources entrusted to us. We are responsible before God, one another and all people for our programs, relationships, personal lifestyles and expenditures of time and money. Psalm 41:12

Prayer – Our very existence depends upon the will of God. Prayer demonstrates our dependence on and submission to God. Jeremiah 33:3

Excellence – We must work to do God’s will, by His power, with all our heart. Proverbs 22:29

Vision – We are committed to pursuing a vision for the ministry God has called us to. We believe that the Holy Spirit will reveal to us the future ministry God has entrusted to us. What we do each year must be in concert with the vision for the future. Habakkuk 2:3

Relationship – We strive to serve one another and love one another, believing that mutual interdependence, respect and the combining of our gifts are essential to the fulfillment of our mission. Philippians 2:3

Obedience – Obedience to the Word and will of God is a prerequisite for the success of any God-honoring mission. As a result, IBS values and expects obedience to God and views it as a fundamental component to fulfilling the mission of making disciples of Christ. John 14:15

Creativity – To create is to make something new from something old. Because the gospel is the best news that anyone could ever receive, we refuse to present it as dull or boring. We accurately translate and publish the Bible’s inherent vibrancy and color with presentations that are attractive, fresh, intriguing, relevant and compelling. Ephesians 3:8-9
